The Secret to Container Yields: Stage-Based Feeding
To keep your elevated planters highly productive, especially if you heavily pack them with plants, you need a targeted feeding routine that doesn't make a mess indoors. You can achieve this by matching your fertilizer to the exact growth stage of your vegetables.
The Vegetative Stage
During the vegetative stage, plants focus on building a strong foundation. This is when you will see rapid leaf and stem growth as your vegetables work hard to develop the structures they need to support future blooms and fruit. At this stage, plants require higher levels of nitrogen to fuel lush, green growth and robust foliage. I highly suggest using MicroLife Ultimate 8-4-6, which has the highest amount of nitrogen to support this early development.
The Reproductive Stage
As plants transition into the reproductive stage, their energy shifts from leaf growth to flower and fruit production. This is the time when phosphorus becomes especially important. Phosphorus supports healthy root systems, vibrant blooms, and abundant fruiting. Without the right nutrients, plants will struggle to flower or produce the yields you are hoping for. For this stage, I recommend using Max Blooms 3-8-3 as a foliar spray and as a soil drench.

Plant fragrant herbs like rosemary, thyme, and oregano around the perimeter of your containers.
Tuck vibrant flowers like nasturtiums and marigolds into the corners of your beds.
Allow these companion plants to act as natural decoys; pests that are normally attracted to your produce will eat the flowers and herbs instead.
